H1N1 (Swine Flu) Information

There have been multiple confirmed cases of H1N1 flu in our area; the seasonal flu has not yet arrived.

Flu symptoms include fever, headache, sore throat, aches, chills, and sometimes nausea and vomiting. Like seasonal flu, H1N1 can vary from mild to severe.

If you have some or all of the above symptoms at this time, it is likely that you have the H1N1 flu. We are no longer testing patients due to the high volume of positive tests we have received. Treatment of H1N1 includes rest, keeping yourself hydrated, using Tylenol/Advil as needed, etc. Most people recover without needing medical care.

Medications including Tamiflu and Relenza are only indicated for people who are at high risk for complications from the flu. That includes pregnant women and up to two weeks postpartum, people over age 65, children under age two, and anyone who has asthma, heart disease, COPD/emphysema, immunosupression, and some other chronic medical conditions.

We are encouraging people to stay at home if they have flu simptoms unless there is concern about more serious effects including, but not limited to, dehydration, difficulty breathing/shortness of breath, extreme lethargy, or irritability. The CDC recommends staying out of work/school until the fever is gone for 24 hours.

If you have concerns and would like an appointment, please contact the scheduling desk.
